Resumo
The ability to tune the exact structure of organic macromolecules has been the subject of extensive research over the last few decades and offers promise to provide tailored materials for diverse applications. One of the more compelling applications involves their use as carrier systems for therapeutics, and is bolstered by the ability of the carrier to tune drug solubility, stability, and pharmacokinetics (drug distribution) in vivo. A few case studies of carrier architectures, based on combinations of linear, dendritic and cyclic polymers, will be described with particular focus on how architecture can be manipulated to optimize carrier design.
